History
Everton began life as the St Domingo School team in 1878, changing it's name to Everton a year later. The club had several homes in the early years, but it's first venue as founder member of the Football League was Anfield. After some early success the owner of Anfield decided to double the rent, and Everton responded by moving. They built their own ground and called it Goodison Park. The move resulted in a new team being created to play at Anfield - I can't quite remember the name, but I'm sure it had the word 'poo' in it somewhere.
Everton have spent more years in the top division in England than any other team.
Like many of the top clubs their fortunes have run in cycles enjoying success in the 1930's (with the legendary Dixie Dean up front), the 1960's (with the likes of Harvey, Kendall and Ball) and in the 1980's (under Howard Kendall). Evertonians will of course be hoping that a new era is about to dawn under David Moyes.
